You've got to have a plan. The most SUCCESSFUL businesses work with a plan in mind. Make your plan for your year ahead in business. Decide how much you want to make and figure out how to make it. Here's a small plan: Rent three units at least two times each per weekend. Six total rentals. Your plan should include minimum amount you will receive for these rentals such as no less than $80 per party rental. Your plan brings you to $480 weekly. You should have paid off your inventory in 4-8 weeks! From here you must plan what extras you can offer to bring your weekly amount up. Once you have planned your future business you will find it easier to carry out your success! You can always expand the plan along the way to increase rental charges, increase weekly rentals, increase inventory.

Just stick to a plan, you are the boss.

First word that should come to mind before you do anything new, including starting a new business or reviewing your ongoing business practices, is SUCCESS. How can I best do this task to attain success?
Envision yourself as successful. Know what it looks like. What does it feel like? How hard are you working? How much money are you making? How will you maintain this success? Now put together building blocks that will help you become successful. As you recognize new abilities about yourself and your staff reward them by putting them into action with SUCCESS in mind. Suddenly everything you question will be answered, "how much should I charge to rent, who should I hire, how large should my inventory be..." and that answer is, "whatever it takes to bring "SUCCESS."

Rental Rates

So you're starting a new inflatables bounce house rentals business? What do you charge for rental rates?

They seem to be regional and seasonal. West Coast charges less than East Coast, etc. Florida charges less than Minnesota. Make sense?

Take into account your expenses including storage, upkeep, original item cost, (divided by the amount of rentals you want to pay it off in), insurance, staff, vehicle. When you include your gas expenses keep in mind the fluctuation of the cost of gas. Then you must figure how many times minimum you must rent your items monthly. Once cost is covered put your profits on top of the hourly rental amount by adding anywhere from 100% to 300% to net cost.

Per rental offer 4 hours with a bonus price for all day. Each item should be rented 5-6 times weekly full time or monthly part time.

Do the math, if it is not enough money invest in additional products! Once you are known for rentals you will start getting calls for chairs and tables, concession items, carnival games and more.
Figuring rates: Bouncer at $1500 cost = $75 per rental total hours (to pay it off in 20 rentals)
Add to this the extras listed above per rental then put your profits on top. Remember, once it is paid off in 20 rentals the $75 costs per rental will become increased profit.
Keep them looking good, clean, safe. Insure your company against liabilities. Incorporate your business to keep your personal finances safe and separate.
It's a business but it's meant to be a fun one.

Spring Break

Spring Break is a great time to get together in the park for "more than one family" days. Invite families already at the park to donate money for their kids to use the bounce or slide. Keep staffed for maximum safety. 4-8 families can pay for the day. Parks, lakes, church areas are brimming with kids during the weekdays. Another thing to offer is the entire Spring Break week of a rental at enough money to pay for a weekend, then rent it again that weekend! Think smart, it's the one time of year every day should bring a rental or 2 or 3... Happy Spring.

Always calculate your rental fees after you get the final cost of your new purchases. Do not give anyone a discount, your rental fees are your paycheck and you wouldn't think of giving that away if you were earning one would you? Anyone you lose to this deal is not worth reserving a place on your schedule, especially to replace a paying customer.
Get ready for Spring now, always carry your reservations calendar with you. Ask churches now about VBS and ask schools about Spring Carnivals and Picnics. It's never too far in the future to put on your calendar.
Start now... when school is out you want to have 5 rentals per unit weekly minimum.

Where do I find the money?

So... you're wanting to start your new business but can't find the money the traditional way: friends and family, bank are saying, "Sorry, we just don't believe in you." Well it's time to change that mind set! Why not take your business plan to local sponsors: i.e., Drive-thru foods, churches, kids shoes, what stores do you have in your city? You can even have the inflatables custom designed with a sponsor's logo, you get the rent and your sponsor gets the exposure. Oh yes... and they pay for it too! All you have to do is show them where this item will appear to promote their product. How many "kids" will be exposed to their logo via their Bouncer or Slide at parties, events, and kids gatherings throughout town? This is "guerilla marketing" at its best. You decide what percentage they will pay for the unit, present this plan to more than one sponsor in the area, perhaps you can sell 2 or 3 and start with this many units for rent! Don't be afraid to present new and different ways for other companies to reach the kids you will be entertaining. Kids are a big draw for marketing efforts. You could end up with a Dairy Queen bouncing castle that draws kids for your rentals and increases DQ's exposure. (this is just an example of one kind of sponsor, we do not advocate for them) Be sure to understand "liability" for you and your sponsor before you set a price for this kind of marketing.
